Daniel,
Thanks for your help on this. The MD5 for my Silverlight download is 4E547458C4AF8982019E225DD31D9E52 *Silverlight.2.0.exe (If I downloaded a good MD5 calculator. I used a product called "FastSum".) Given the number of programs that I have successfully downloaded in the past, I seriously doubt that I have a corrupt file. Something else in the system has to be kicking off the installer. I seriously believe that there is some hidden file or some registry entry that is causing the problem. Silverlight 1.1/2.0 are the only programs that have failed to load on a download situation. (I have sort of ruled out a MS Installer problem since I have loaded
and unloaded VS2005 Ocras Express developer editions and subsequently replaced them with VS2008 Express editions -- all downloaded from MS website -- on this machine with no problems, as well as other MS software.)
After listening to Tim Heuer's Silverlight presentation at yesterday's "Heros" conference, and noting that this is just a client-side browser add-in I thought that my installation of IE7 may be corrupt. (I had a bad load of IE7 on the automated update that came many months ago and had to go to the IE7 website and do a reload to correct the problem.) So, I removed IE7. I am on IE6 right now and the same problem persists; error 1500 - corrupt file. I even did the install directly from the download this morning and same problem still exists.
From a historical perspective, with the 1.1 "corrupt file" issue I followed someone's suggestion at removing some temp files. I did that and it did not help. Based on another thread, I also tried going to the temp file and running the installer directly. Again, no help. So this is a very persistent problem on my machine.
If I am a majority of 1 on this, I can bite the bullet and reload my machine from scratch. But, I think my problem is indicative of what others may be experiencing, but just not frustrated enough yet to squawk about it. Now that I have seen what Silverlight can do, I can imagine that this product will really take off with the 2.0 enhancements. So, I do want to be ready for it.
Thanks again for any assistance you can give.
Bob
