Update in Silverlight remains after install (Can't reinstall)

I installed Silverlight and my PC began running funny. When I removed Silverlight, an "update" remains that cannot be removed. I did system restore...this update cannot be removed in add/remove no matter what I've tried. Microsoft has no answers and their last one was to run an XP REPAIR and I'm a little worried about doing that because I'm not sure if I'll lose anything. I even removed the code ( 69F1CF92-4A66-4785-BBBD-849EA1B686DA) from the registry! Nothing remains anywhere except the "update" in add/remove when you check the "show updates" box. Any ideas???

Re: Update in Silverlight remains after install (Can't reinstall)

Can you try running the Windows Installer Cleanup utility and seeing if that helps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 ?

Re: Update in Silverlight remains after install (Can't reinstall)

I tried it with no luck. I can't find this "update" anywhere but in the add/remove window (when showing all updates). Thank you anyways!

What happens when you try to install Silverlight again? Can you post the most recent SilverlightMSI<random digits> and SilverlightUI<random digits> in your %temp% directory after installing again?

Re: Update in Silverlight remains after install (Can't reinstall)

I had the same problem.

I used this freeware:

http://www.revouninstaller.com/

Rid the registry of all remnants and I was able to reinstall

Re: Update in Silverlight remains after install (Can't reinstall)

Sherlog,

Thank you for your help but it didn't work. Silverlight can't be found on my pc anywhere. All that remains is the main issue to the problem. When I initially unistalled the program, an update that came with it can NOT be removed. Nothing matters. Even when I went into the registry to remove the update, the program still won't install. I unistalled IE 7 and reinstalled. The same issue remains.

Reinstalling Windows XP may be the only solution if someone doesn't find a way to rid the system of the update (and I won't do this if I'm going to lose things in the process). My pc runs fine so why mess with it for Silverlight?

 Thanks again.
