mpeg video support

MPEG-1 video support: I know this issue has come up in these forums the past, and the verdict seems that only WMV and Microsoft-compliant video is supported by Silverlight...

Still, is there no-way/no-how that non-Micosoft video formats can be displayed?

I need to propose a prototype (and eventually a production platform) for a project that involves playing/streaming a lot of archived video, much of which will be in non-Microsoft formats, EG: Quicktime, Flash, etc.

Even if Silverlight did not support all of these, it would make it easier for me to "sell" it if it at least supported a "tolerable-common-denominator" like MPEG-1, or somesuch.

Regards.

Hey, I hear you: I've got the exact same problem: I've invested a bit in learning Silverlight 1, and then learning Silverlight 2. But someone else in my office is already learning Adobe-Flex, and if it turns out that all Silverlight is good for is playing WMV files and streams - I'll just have to follow suit and play catch-up with him.

Does flash play mpegs, avi or quicktime natively? any time I try to make a flash movie, I have to run it through an import/convert process in flash or sorenson. I dont have Flex or Flash CS3 yet so I may be incorrect with the latest version. But, I would concider that to be a similar process to using the Expression Encoder that converts any type of file to .wmv for silverlight and you can also automate the conversion process with expression encoder, with a background service, or you can still use the free Windows Media encoder 9 for conversions if cost was an issue.
