Silverlight and FLV

Now that Adobe has opened up the FLV and F4V specs.

How likely do you guys think it will be that MS will push off Beta 2 to get this in there? It's a huge thing to support. According to Adobe 75% of the online streamed content is through it, which I do not doubt. While, yes I agree it's inferior to VC-1, FLV is less CPU intensive. Whenever I watch VC-1 content in Silverlight my CPU jumps to 30%+. FLV is around 10%. It is a better suited format for mobile device streaming. I'd be amazed if my phone can handle VC-1, but I know it can handle FLV.

Re: Silverlight and FLV

I doubt it...Microsoft has a vested interest in steering companies towards higher quality video than FLV can do, there is no money in Silverlight, only in servers...

At one point Real had 80% of the streaming market and look what's happened to them...having 75% of the content doesn't mean they should include it, but I understand why you think they should.  As far as CPU load, its an issue but some of that issue has to do with the codec and some has to do with the quality of what is being transmitted...I don't know where the CPU load issue really is...my crappy phone can show VC-1 pretty easily...
