I assume you want to understand what Silverlight is and how to use it.
For both, I recommend visiting the "Get Started" and "Learn" sections above. You can view existing Silverlight applications in the Showcase (also linked above)
Silverlight is a browser plug-in similar to other technologies such as Flash/Flex. Silverlight 1.0 uses JavaScript and was released in September last year. Silverlight 2 has controls and is programmed using .NET (C#, VB, and dynamic languages) and is much closer to WPF. Beta 1 of Silverlight 2 was released in March of this year, Beta 2 will be coming some time in the next couple months.
At RTM later this year, Silverlight 2 will be backwards compatible with Silverlight 1.0. It generally is now, but it is beta technology, so you have to expect some bugs.
