Hosting Silverlight yourself

Hi All,

Forgive me if this is already answered, however the only post i saw was that it will integrate into any server.

I currently use Helix Unlimited for streaming and i am looking to move away from this solution on one of my boxes.

Please can i have a recomendation of new straming server software.  I have windows server 2k3 standard and am willing to upgrade if the microsoft route is the way to go.

Bear in mind my rquirements are

1.  Stability

2.  It musnt keep players conncted after client disconnects (my current problem with helix.. ive had 45k players remain connected!! manual restarts every week is fun..)

3.  Must utilise the multibitrate function for differing clients

4.  Must be able to capture analytics of the clips.  (i do know that webtrends now captures silverlight data, however i do not know if this is for streamed files)

Please reccomend OS (if it needs upgrading), New streaming platform, new analytics software if it isnt inbuilt.

I currently serve 1 million clips a month off of this box, so it does get hammered, but its a twin quadcore xeon with 8GB Ram and a Raid 5 1tb array, so the hardware copes.

Please also say as to why you are suggesting the above, good points and down points if any.

Thanks all in anticipation of your positive responses, i cant wait to try it out )

Hi, I don't know if Windows Server 2008 meets your requirement. But please have a look at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/serve/features.aspx and http://edge.technet.com/Media/Streaming-Media-with-Server-2008/. You can also ask your question on the Windows Server 2008 forums. There're many knowlegable experts on that forum.

shanaolanxing - I'll transfer to the Windows Azure team, and will have limited time to participate in the Silverlight forum. Apologize if I don't answer your questions in time.
