Silverlight is not working on Firefox

This is interesting. Silverlight installation is working on my IE7 I get the "Get Silverlight" image in Firefox. I uninstalled and reinstalled Silverlight but no change. I also installed the Silverlight Alpha Refresh. I am also on Vista Ultimate.

Any ideas why Silverlight would not work on my Firefox?

Never mind. The issue was due to an add-on Firefox. It works now!

 I'm interested in which add-on was causing this behavior, since I have the same problem.

It was this add-on:

 I don't have either of those addons and Silverlight doesn't show up in my FireFox pages.

Re: Silverlight is not working on Firefox

 Yes, I've even rebooted. Flash, Acrobat Reader etc. plugins all work fine in FF. The Silverlight "Get it here" icon appears on pages with Silverlight content. I can always fire up IE7 to view the handfull of training videos done in Silverlight but its annoying. Fortunately most of them are presented in Flash (ASP.NET, LINQ etc.).

Thanks..

Is it possible that Silverlight is disabled? You should be able to check at about:plugins.

Re: Silverlight is not working on Firefox

 about:plugins shows Silverlight enabled:

Silverlight Plug-In

File name: npctrl.1.0.30109.0.dll 1.0.30109.0
MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled
application/x-silverlight npctrl scr Yes

Yes, I am running FF 3 Beta 3 soon to be Beta 4! FF3 performance and memory management is vastly improved over FF2.

I'm sorry to say that the released version of Silverlight.js doesn't currently work with Firefox 3, they've done a breaking change in how they interpret object tags I believe.

Re: Silverlight is not working on Firefox

 I expected it was something like that. Seems pages displaying Flash are using either :

<script language="javascript">
if (AC_FL_RunContent == 0) {
alert("This page requires AC_RunActiveContent.js.");
} else {
AC_FL_RunContent(
'codebase', 'http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0',
...
or:
<script type="text/javascript">
var so = new SWFObject("movie.swf", "mymovie", "400", "200", "8", "#336699");
so.write("flashcontent");
</script>
so object is not involved. Too bad, seems all of Joe Stenger's videos have been converted to Silverlight :(

Re: Silverlight is not working on Firefox
I'm having this problem and have Firefox 2.0.0.14 installed. Until Microsoft resolves this I can't justify spreading the word about Silverlight or share links. The experience has to be for all browser on all platforms to have a winner and not supporting Firefox is a loose situation. :(

Re: Silverlight is not working on Firefox

I agree fully. Microsoft said they were serious about Silverlight. Now it appears they can't be bothered. We have some Silverlight content on our web site, but if they don't fix the Firefox 3 problem (which is now a release candidate) very soon, it will come off and may not ever go back.

regards,
Alan.

Re: Silverlight is not working on Firefox

OS, Vista Home. I installed Silverlight plugin for Firefox to be able to watch Olympics content at NBC. When I restarted My browser all of my bookmarks and bookmarks toolbar had vanished. All of the navigation buttons were grayed out. My browser did not open to my home page, or any page. I typed in a URL, but still the navigation buttons were grayed. Silverlight had essentially removed all useful function from Firefox. I disabled the Silverlight plugin, but that had no effect. I was able to get bookmarks back and restore all the functions to Firefox by running System Restore. That did not get rid of Silverlight, but I disabled it again.

Re: Silverlight is not working on Firefox

Can anyone tell me why they say:
"Microsoft Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform, and cross-device plug-in"?

When  i try to view the silverlight website on firefox linux it say's:

"Microsoft Silverlight may not be supported on your computer's hardware or operating system."

 They lie...

Linux support for Silverlight is being provided through the Moonlight project.

 But they said, that MICROSOFT Silverlight is crossplatfrom :) There is no any word about Moonlight. So, Microsoft Silverlight is not crossplatfrom.

Yes, I understand, that we should wait for RTW............

My web site is FULL SilverLight RTW

Gray background. Which is the ASP.NET background of course.  It says "Transfering data from..." at the bottom of FF3 but SilverLight never loads

http://gearworld.dyndns.org:8082/devpreview

Workds fine in IE

Re: Re: Silverlight is not working on Firefox

It is a Firefox problem not Silverlight problem. It is mandatory to insert style="height:xx" in the div tag in order to view it in Firefox.

I had my Silverlight object inside an ajax UpdatePanel, and this control is rendered inside a simple DIV, so Firefox didn't visualize it. I had to use a custom UpdatePanel and now it's all full working.

We all know this.  But we don't have to modify our application for FireFox to work.  They'll fix it.

When should we expect it to works in FireFox.  We don't even know if someone is working on the problem
There's not supose to have a place where KNOWN BUGS and PROGRESS are reported on a certain blog somewhere in the thousands and thousands of blogs out there ?
